Cricket legends will be gracing the Mays Bounty wicket this weekend in a memorial match to a former Basingstoke player who lost his life last year.
43-year-old Lee Nurse died from Covid in April 2020.
A memorial match, which will see international cricketing legends including Sir Gordon Greenidge and Shaun Udal attending, will take place at Mays Bounty on Sunday.
Greenidge, widely regarded as one of the greatest opening batsmen of all time, played 108 test matches for the West Indies, scoring more than 7,500 runs and had a top score of 226.
Phil Defreitas, Charl Willoughby, Julian Wood, Jon Hardy and David Nash will also attend.
Lee used to play for Basingstoke and North Hants Cricket Club and Berkshire County Cricket Club.
He made his debut for the club in 1997 and played for them until 2006, playing in nearly 30 championship games.
Lee’s great-uncle Seymour Nurse played test cricket for the West Indies, and first-class and List-A cricket for Barbados.
The match starts at 11am and is being described as "a celebration of Lee's life and spirit".
