The former branch of Lloyds Bank at the Top of Town could be transformed into a restaurant and flats.

The iconic building in Market Square has laid empty since the banking firm closed the branch in 2019, preferring a unit in Festival Place instead.

The building is now up for sale for £1.35 million, with the agent promoting the 7,000 square foot site for a new restaurant.

In 2018, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council granted a 'change of use', meaning the ground floor and basement can be used as a restaurant, whilst the first and second floors can be converted into seven flats.

Prospective purchasers have three options - leasing the ground floor and basement, leasing the entire building or purchasing the freehold for the whole building.

The property brochure, put together by agents London Clancy, describes Basingstoke as a "major centre for commerce and industry".

It says the building is located in Basingstoke's 'Old Town', lying within the Basingstoke Town Centre Conservation Area.

Indicative plans for the restaurant show the entrance through the main bank doors which open out onto Market Square, with access to the above flats coming through side entrances on Winchester Street and Joice's Yard.

The plans show a seating capacity of 120.
