HEAVY rain and downfalls are forecast to lash the Hampshire this afternoon, triggering warnings of flooding and travel disruption.
The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for the south coast of England from 6am until 9pm today, September 14.
Spray and flooding on roads could make journey times longer, with a small chance of road closures while flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible.
The Met Office state: “An area of rain, heavy in places, is expected to move north-eastwards across parts of southern and eastern England, with thunder in a few places. [Around] 15-25mm of rain is likely quite widely with some spots seeing around 40mm in a few hours. The rain should ease later in the day, before mostly clearing after dusk.”
But temperatures will remain warm with highs of up to 19 °C throughout the afternoon.
Here is the full forecast and what to expect:
Today:
Becoming increasingly cloudy as an area of rain moves erratically northeast across the region. The rain will be locally heavy but should ease during the afternoon, with a chance of brief sunny spells in the far west late. Maximum temperature 20 °C.
Tonight:
A few clear spells in the evening but becoming generally cloudy overnight, with extensive low cloud, areas of mist and a few outbreaks of drizzle, especially over the Chiltern hills. Minimum temperature 12 °C.
