A NEW Netfilx dancing competition is being filmed in Basingstoke with celebrity dance experts and an ‘internationally famous host’.
Free tickets to watch the show titled Dance Monsters, being filmed at Black Hangar Studios in Lasham, are being given away through Applause Store.
People were queueing up inside Festival Place shopping centre on Friday and Saturday from 9am to secure a place to watch the show, before being taken by coach to the studios.
However, those attending have been sworn to secrecy regarding the identity of the judging panel and famous host.
Mum Michaela Riley from Basingstoke said her son was made to sign a contract agreeing not to disclose any details about the show.
Speaking to the Gazette, she said: “Everyone had to sign a contract that they can’t say anything. They were running quite late so it was a long evening, he didn’t get home until 12.45am after leaving at 3.30pm. But he loved it and said it was really good.”
However, she said there was disappointment from people who thought they had tickets only to be turned away when they got to the shopping centre.
Applause Store allocates more tickets than the show has capacity for, meaning people are given a space on a first-come-first served basis on arrival at Festival Place, leaving many people disappointed at not getting in.
The show is described by Netfilx as a “large scale dancing competition with a monster twist, giving a colourful global stage to people passionate about dance, as they compete in a way they’ve never been able to before”.
Using VFX, live motion capture and facial recognition, competitors transform into lovable and fantastical dance monsters that come to life in front of an expert panel of judges and a live studio audience.
Netflix said: “It’s hugely ambitious, with a heartfelt journey at its core as we see what happens when you really can dance like no one’s watching. For their time on stage, they get to escape reality, become something truly extraordinary and stand out from the crowd.”
Further filming dates for October 14 and 15 are already fully booked, but there is limited availability for October 22.
