Basingstoke Men’s 1s sealed a 2-0 win as they travelled away to face Witney Men’s 1s this week.
Basingstoke started well and had some early chances, with Dean Record hitting the post. Witney then found their feet with some strong play, however Basingstoke were able to go ahead with a goal from Record. Basingstoke improved further in the second half and had a lot of close chances with no conversions. Player of the match, Ben Cowling, made some great saves to keep Basingstoke in the game. With 10 minutes to play, Record was able put away a scrappy second goal to seal a 2-0 win for Basingstoke.
Basingstoke Men’s 1s sit 3rd in the league, only 1 point behind top of the table Marlow. Next week, the Men are at home against Fareham 2s at 1 30pm.
Basingstoke Ladies 2s had a tough game ahead as they faced top of the league Trojan’s 2s at home. Trojans showed their strength and were able to go 1-0 up after a composed finish to dribble the ball around the Basingstoke defence. After starting the second half in the snow, Basingstoke started well and earnt a penalty corner, from which a superb strike from Jade Darrington brought the score level to 1-1. However, this score line did not last long after some poor marking left several Trojans players free inside the D, which ensured they scored a second. Basingstoke were not done yet however. A piece of strong breakaway play down the right from Maddie Saunders, who crossed the ball to Sienna Boyce in the D to then sweep the ball past the Trojans keeper to make it 2-2. With 10 minutes to go, Trojans continued to attack and sent a fast ball into the D which was deflected past the Basingstoke keeper to score the winner and make the final score 2-3.
Basingstoke Men’s 2s had another tough 0-8 defeat against Bournemouth 2s. Basingstoke Ladies 3s had a late away fixture against Chichester. Despite a goal from Jude Bird, the ladies lost 1-3. Basingstoke Men’s 3s lost 0-2 against Winchester Academy.
Basingstoke Ladies 4s suffered a 0-6 defeat to Southampton University Ladies 1s. Basingstoke Men’s 4s were able to get a point with a 1-1 draw away against Chichester 4s after a goal from Chris Cox.
Basingstoke Ladies 5s were able to achieve all 3 points this week, with a 2-0 win away against Portsmouth Ladies 4s. The goals were scored by Jenna Derry and Tamzin Williams. Basingstoke Men’s 5s lost 2-4 to Portsmouth 5s with goals from Chris Jenkins and Ian Pett.
Basingstoke Ladies 6s lost 1-3 at home to Haslemere Ladies 4s. Basingstoke Men’s 6s lost 0-4 against top of the league Lavant Men’s 1s.
The first week of December features another set of fixtures for Basingstoke Hockey Club as the league continues for another two weeks. Alongside the Men’s 1s, Basingstoke Ladies 3s face Trojan’s Ladies 4s at 10.15am at Down Grange and Basingstoke Men’s 4s face Portsmouth Men’s 4s at home at 11.45am.
