A ROAD that was labelled as a “death trap” remains a problem after sand has been reportedly used to fill a crumbling road.
A previously reported, Stacy Cole from Axford, voiced worries about the condition of Duxford Lane, which runs between Axford and Dummer, with the current road crumbling at either side near Poasley Farm.
Since then, Stacy called on Hampshire County Council to fill the holes and one of them has been filled in with sand.
Stacy said: “I noticed that they had put cones around the holes and then the next day I noticed they just chucked a load of sand to cover one of the holes but that’s just no good.
“People are still getting stuck, and nobody knows where to go because the cones just float away when it floods.
“They need to come and tarmac the road and fill it properly because there have been so many near misses now.
“It’s annoying it’s been going on for nearly two years and I worry for other people’s safety and all the drivers who continue to get stuck.”
Speaking previously to The Gazette, she said: “It is quite a busy road and if it rains then a lot of people cut through this way to go to Alton. It has been like it for about two years and the road has now deteriorated.
“At the moment it’s like a death trap and at the moment you are trying to drive in the middle of the road because both sides have sunk in.
“Everyone goes to the side thinking the water is more shallow there and that’s where the big sinkhole is and then they are stuck.”
On December 11 the condition of the road reportedly led to seven cars sustaining tyre punctures.
Hampshire County Council told The Gazette that its Highways team would “look into the issue raised,” with a spokesperson adding: “We are always grateful to receive reports of highway issues from residents, via our online reporting system, so that we can inspect, prioritise and programme repairs accordingly.”
Stacy is now calling on the council to do more to improve the condition of the current road.
