The plans include creating a junior MUGA on the field off Cranbourne Lane with basketball hoops and goals, located next to the existing children’s play park.
The borough council said it has a budget of £146,500 for the works, which has come from contributions from Kinghtspur Homes for its development on land behind Wella House, in Wella Road.
The council said: “The funds are specifically to enhance the open space at Cranbourne Lane and Radford Gardens and will be spent on improving access, facilities, and planting within both spaces.
“A junior multi-use games area will also be installed, to increase activity and wellbeing within the local community.”
As part of its proposals, the council wants to install a street workout system; a 1.5 metre wide path through an avenue of trees; new benches; and mounds laid with wildflower turf to help reduce noise from the MUGA to nearby residents.
Groups of trees will also be planted to break up the open space.
In the open space next to Radford Gardens the council plans to create a new footpath; install benches; and plant trees and wildflowers.
A consultation on the plans has now closed and the council is reviewing the responses received to complete the final designs.
