THE country’s top freefall talent competed against each other in Basingstoke this weekend as they took part in the British Indoor Skydiving Nationals.

The event took place at iFly at Basingstoke Leisure Park on February 12 and 13, where the country’s top freefall talent competed against each other in the purpose-built vertical wind tunnel, which can generate impressive wind speeds of up to 180mph.

The event was officially opened by Cllr Paul Miller, Basingstoke’s deputy Mayor.

The competition’s youngest competitor and regular flyer at iFLY Basingstoke, 13-year-old Emily King wowed the judges with a freestyle performance that not only won the hearts of spectators, but also her fellow competitors.

She described her first flight as “amazing” adding: “I was hooked and I just wanted to do it again and again.”

Whilst Emily narrowly missed out on a podium spot finishing in fourth place, she will represent Great Britain at the World Cup in the Junior category.

Meanwhile, Basingstoke-born Harry Soan will represent Great Britain at the World Cup in three Indoor Skydiving Disciplines.

During the event he secured Bronze with his fellow team-mate, Zac Nicholas, in Dynamic 2-way.

Harry also finished with a silver in the solo acrobatic freestyle event and he then topped it off by taking Gold in the Dynamic 4-way event.
