MYSTERY surrounds the possible opening of a new deli in Basingstoke.
An empty retail unit in Hackwood Road, which was previously used by a fancy dress shop, has undergone a revamp with new signage installed on the front.
However, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council said it has not received a licence application for the premises.

The sign outside says the shop is called Safari Sunrise offering deli, wine, butchery, and coffee.
However, when the Gazette tried to find out more information using the website address provided on the sign, it did not exist.
The borough council said it will attempt to contact the business owners.
A statement from the borough council added: “The council has not received a licence application for the Safari Sunrise in Hackwood Road and the business has yet to open. A member of the council’s licensing team will attempt to contact the business owners to discuss their intention to apply for the relevant licence.”
