TOILET waste overflew into the Overton High Street and out into the River Test for hours yesterday (Sunday, February 21) following a drainage clogging caused by flushed wet wipes.
A local pub was also forced to close yesterday as the drainage block caused severe flooding amidst rains.
The clogging was finally resolved after seven hours of work by drainage cleansing services, Southern Water and plumbers.
The landlord of The Red Lion pub said in a Facebook post that the flooding was caused by a family in the High Street who have been flushing baby wipes down their toilet.

“If you were wondering why Red Lion Lane in Overton was partially closed yesterday (and the pub was shut), it's because of... baby wipes.
“At The Red Lion yesterday we suffered severe flooding. Thanks to a full seven hours of work, the efforts of MTS, Southern Water and Neil from N D Plumbing Services it was uncovered that a property in the High Street area are flushing baby wipes down their toilet.
“The effect yesterday was that human effluence was overflowing into the high street, into the drainage system and out into the River Test. The effect on the pub was the cost of an emergency plumber, a full clean-up effort and a whole day of lost trading.”
