TWO young inspirational Scouts from Basingstoke have been busy fundraising after they were praised by celebrity survival expert Bear Grylls for their international success.

Brother and sister Toby and Tallulah Howard recently celebrated their achievements after being selected for the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea and the European Tour.

Toby Howard from the 1st Chineham Scout group is one of the 3,240 young people to be selected to join 50,000 people taking part in the World Scout Jamboree.

Meanwhile, Tallulah, who is from the same group, will be travelling across Europe as part of an exciting expedition.

TV star Bear Grylls. who was appointed the youngest-ever Chief Scout of the United Kingdom at aged 35, previously praised the two youngsters.

He said: “Congratulations to Toby and all those who have been selected to go on this amazing adventure! World Scout Jamborees only happens every four years and tens of thousands of Scouts from across the world attend each one.

“Young people will experience different cultures, languages, and cuisine while learning new skills. After two very difficult years, it is so important that these young people have this opportunity.”

The pair have now completed their first training weekend, where they got to know the members of their individual group that will travel with them in 2023, including coming up with group names.

Toby’s Unit 60 are now known as the ‘Hampshire Royals’ with a Hedgehog as a mascot – Marmalade III.

Tallulah’s Project 23 tour has been branded as the ‘Hampshire Scouts Marvellous European Road Trip’ with groups named after Marvel characters. Her Team D is now known as ’Team Black Panther’.

Their focus is now to concentrate on the fundraising challenge that they have and they have started to talk to companies across the borough about support as well as taking action in the community.

Last weekend the youngsters completed their first community car wash in Chineham, with the support of Waitrose who provided the food and drink for the customers to enjoy.

Tallulah said: “We want to say a really big thank you to everyone who came down and supported us.”

Her brother Toby said “the support really exceeded" their expectations.

The next car wash event is will take place on Sunday, April 3.
