SCHOOL children have been working with Anvil Arts during a series of fun exercises to help them share positivity.

Anvil Arts took their 'World At Large' project to Greenfields Junior School in Hartley Wintney last week.

The two classes of Year 3 children spent a total of four days working with the trusts project team to focus on the school's learning behaviours and connect with positive values, as well as its respect portfolio.

The children all enjoyed a day of arts play and exercises, and they then spent the rest of the week devising a performance before sharing it with their friends and families, along with Year 4 pupils, on the final day of the exercises.

Flis Pitman, Anvil Arts community engagement manager, said “This was our first project able to run in a school since February 2020, and so it had extra importance for all involved.

“Using music and drama to develop a deeper understanding of the school’s respect portfolio means that treating people with kindness and fairness doesn’t stop at the school gates and extends into the community. Anvil Arts is so pleased to support young people to do this, unlocking areas of creativity and curiosity along the way.”

Jenny Cook, the executive deputy headteacher of the school said it was a “privilege” for the school to be involved with the project.

She added: “Without doubt it was a rewarding experience for all children who had the opportunity to shine and discover their inner confidence.

“The personal development shown by the children through music and drama was outstanding - resulting in a fantastic performance delivered with confidence and conviction - every word mattered! Our school values were exemplified in such a creative and engaging way and the impact of this work will be a lasting and powerful legacy across our Federation."

As previously reported the Anvil Arts currently manages The Anvil, The Haymarket and The Forge venues which are owned by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

They have just extended their lease to manage The Haymarket, which was due to expire in September 2022, but will be extended until September 2025.
