CELEBRATIONS to mark the Queen's platinum jubilee have begun in Basingstoke with new trees being planted in the borough.
The mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Cllr Onnalee Cubitt was joined by guests last Friday to plant a Turkish Hazel tree in War Memorial Park.

She said: “I was honoured to plant a tree on behalf of the borough to celebrate Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee not only to add to The Queen's Green Canopy but also to leave a legacy for future generations to remember the longest serving monarch in English history.
“70 years of service is a remarkable achievement, and it is a privilege to play a small part in marking this by planting a tree in one of our most popular parks, for all to enjoy."

The tree was planted as part of The Queen's Green Canopy, which encourages residents to celebrate Her Majesty's 70 years of service.
