Basingstoke Ladies 1s held league-leaders Witney for a draw in a high-scoring away game.
Basingstoke started positively and held possession until a small mistake resulted in a Witney break that was passed around the keeper to get an opening goal.
Basingstoke responded positively and dominated the play. They were rewarded with a field goal finished off by Ellen Knighton.
A spell of goals within a few minutes of each other saw Witney take the lead and Basingstoke draw level from an excellent penalty corner routine finished off by Claire Bowman. The score at half time was 2-2.
In the second half, play remained competitive and end to end. Witney again took the lead from a penalty corner, but a gutsy fight back from Basingstoke in Q4 saw Catriona Bausor convert a penalty corner to level the scores. Final score was 3-3.
Basingstoke Ladies 1s, sponsored by K J Smith Solicitors, return to Down Grange this weekend (Saturday, March 19) to take on Penarth at 2pm.
Basingstoke Men’s 1s travelled to face South Berkshire Men’s 1s. A penalty corner drag flick from Graham Garret-Lang put the score at 1-1 at half time. Basingstoke were unable to get through the South Berkshire defence in the second half and suffered a 1-2 defeat. Next week, Basingstoke Men are at home against Witney at 11.45am.
Basingstoke Ladies 2s welcomed Milton Keynes Ladies 1s at home. Basingstoke started well and did not let Milton Keynes play out of the back. This was quickly rewarded with a field goal from Madeline Saunders. The score was 1-0 at half time.
Basingstoke continued to pile on the pressure in the second half, with goals from Milly Raybould and another for Madeline Saunders securing a vital 3-0 win.
Basingstoke Men’s 2s lost 2-4 at home to Trojan’s Men’s 2s, the goals from Phil Stewart and Lucas Chambers. Basingstoke Ladies 3s had their game postponed this week.
Basingstoke Men’s 3s lost 0-3 at home to New Forest Men’s 1s. Basingstoke Ladies 4s lost 0-4 to Portsmouth Ladies 2s.
Basingstoke Men’s 4s beat Hamble Men’s 3s 2-1, with goals from Eliot Boyd and Johnny Lancelles. Basingstoke Men’s 4s currently sit 3rd in their league and face 2nd place Chichester next week at home.
Basingstoke Ladies 5s drew 1-1 with Havant Ladies 5s, the goal from Karen Binney.
Basingstoke Men’s 5s had a friendly this week against Haslemere Men’s 5s, which they won 3-0 to continue their good form. The goals for Toby Osborne, Nick Dudman and Tim Gearing.
Basingstoke Men’s 6s eanred a point at home with a 2-2 draw against Havant Men’s 7s, the goals for Elliot Jimpson and Karl Neighbour. Basingstoke Ladies 6s lost 2-5 to Haslemere Ladies 5s, with Alexis Hornsby scoring both goals.
At home this week (19 March), both Men’s and Ladies 1s are in action, alongside an important game for Basingstoke Men’s 4s at the top of their league, while the Ladies 3s are also back in action.
Basingstoke Ladies 2s travel to face top of the league Trojan’s Ladies 2s and Basingstoke Men’s 2s are away against Bournemouth 2s.
