A DISABLED man from Basingstoke has been left without heating and hot water.
John Ayres, 60, has lived in a property on Barrett Court for 17 years and has now been without a working boiler since March 14.
Mr Ayres had his leg amputated in April last year after suffering from diabetes, meaning he relays heavily on his wheelchair and has said the accommodation provided does ‘not meet the needs of a disabled person."

He said: “I have a boiler that is not working, and it leaks water, which means I have got no hot water and I have got no heating whatsoever.
“All they have given me is one little blow heater. I have asked them to put me in temporary accommodation and they have refused this, and they said they don’t do that.”
John has contacted housing association Southern Housing, who he said owns the property, and hopes that he could be put into temporary accommodation while the problems are fixed.
However, he said he was told this ‘could not happen’, but following an enquiry by the Gazette Mr Ayres has now been moved into a hotel for two weeks.
He added: “Because I am disabled and, in a wheelchair, I had a front door issue as well, which took them 18 months to replace a locking mechanism and my toilet is broken, nothing has been fixed.
“The flat I am in is very small and I have had one leg amputated last year. If the problems were sorted it would just be wonderful but at the moment, I am having no luck with these people whatsoever.
“It is about time they did something right. They are not quick enough to do things for you.”

John has been forced to turn his main water off because, when left on, it currently “drips” everywhere leaving water stains on his carpet.
He added: “I have now been forced into living in the cold and it is very cold.”
Southern Housing has been contacted for a further comment regarding the boiler issue.
