A BASINGSTOKE man has been handed a court bill worth hundreds of pounds after littering a cigarette butt in Southampton.
Matthew Powell, of Oxford Way, dropped the cigarette butt in Grosvenor Square on July 28, last year.

The offence was proved during a hearing at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court and was dealt with via single justice procedure – where a magistrate judges the case on the basis of the papers alone without either party having to attend court for a hearing.
Powell was fined £220, and he must pay court costs of £168.75, along with a £34 victim surcharge.
