A ‘SQUASHATHON’ organised by the Bounty Squash & Racketball Club in Basingstoke has raised nearly £8,000 for Ukraine.
The target of the event, organised by the squash and racketball club based at the Basingstoke Sports & Social Club, was to raise £2,000 for the British Red Cross Ukraine Appeal.
However, the event had a huge support from many top and amateur squash players from the south of England who helped raise £7,850 for the cause.
A generous raffle held in the evening also helped the Squashathon become a big success.
The day-long event was initiated by Bounty Club captain Jack Lake, who has played squash at Odessa in Ukraine.
Jack had won a second place in Men amateur's category at international squash championship 'Zenit Black Sea Open 2021' in Odessa last year.
It was the largest international squash tournament held in Ukraine since the independence of the country.
He and several other Hampshire squash players have played in Odessa over several years.
A spokesperson for the club said they were overwhelmed by people’s generosity in supporting such a worthy and important cause.
“Squash maybe a minority sport in many people's eyes but this proves just what a great community it is.”
