Basingstoke schoolchildren have been getting into the Easter spirit as a part of an exciting competition organised by developer and manager of retirement communities, McCarthy Stone, which is behind the Island View Retirement Living development on Shortwood Copse Lane.
Tasked with creating their own easter egg, the children at Manor Field Infant School were encouraged to be as expressive and imaginative as they like with their designs. Aged between four and seven, the pupils developed their artistic creations to be in with a chance of winning an art voucher, with the entries being judged by homeowners at Island View.
Zinnia, Year 2, took the winning title and top prize with her exceptional design, which thoroughly impressed McCarthy Stone homeowners. Lucas, Year 1, and Oliver, Year 1, also finished within the top three for their own excellent designs. The trio won £40, £30, and £20 vouchers respectively for their imagination and creativity.
In addition, McCarthy Stone donated £100 to Manor Field Infant School to say thank you for taking part in the competition, which will help fund art supplies and enhance the children’s artistic skills.
Lawrence Britt, headteacher at Manor Field Infant School, said: “The pupils who took part in the easter egg design competition really enjoyed the creative challenge and were absolutely delighted to be involved. Congratulations to the deserving winners, and our thanks goes to McCarthy Stone for its generous donation, and for giving us the opportunity to be a part of this exciting initiative.”

Verity McKay, divisional marketing manager at McCarthy Stone Southern, added: “As a company, we understand that our responsibility is not only to build quality, purpose-built retirement properties but to also create a positive legacy in the communities in which we build. I want to say a huge thank you to the pupils at Manor Field Infant School for taking part, and well done to all the children who truly blew our homeowners away with their creativity and eye-catching designs. We look forward to working with them again in the future.”
