THE road is blocked southbound on the link between Black Dam roundabout and the M3 at Junction 6 this evening (April 26) due to an overturned lorry.
Heavy traffic has built up in the area, with delays on Ringway East from the A33 Reading Road.
AA Traffic news states that an incident involving a "rolled over truck" has caused the closure, with drivers reporting queues and heavy emergency service presence.
The incident was first reported by the traffic updates site at 4.44pm, but members of a Hampshire Drivers Facebook group have said that the situation for commuters has "got worse" throughout the evening.
One described the delays on surrounding roads as "chaos" while others said it would "take hours to clear".
Basingstoke Police have asked people to avoid the area, and warned of further disruption as recovery takes place.
In a Tweet, they wrote: "We're asking motorists to avoid the Black Dam Roundabout this evening if possible.
"An HGV turned on its side this afternoon and partly blocked the exit leading to the M3.
"More road closures around the roundabout are likely this evening when the lorry is recovered."
A full road closure will be in place from 10pm and is expected to last all night.
The Gazette has contacted Hampshire Constabulary for further comment.
