A NON-PROFIT organisation is holding an event to teach young people about career opportunities in the local area.
EBP South (Incorporating Basingstoke Consortium) is hosting a Get Inspired Basingstoke event at the Apollo Hotel.
The event will take place on May 4.
Get Inspired events give young people a chance to meet businesses from their local area and learn about the different career options available to them by taking part in interactive activities which can capture their imagination and give them a chance to develop their skills.

Jen Laidlaw, Project Manager at EBP South, said: “This event gives students the opportunity to speak directly to industry professionals and learn about the wide variety of career opportunities in the Basingstoke area.
“These encounters help the students to make connections between what they are learning at school and how they might apply it to their future careers.
“Additionally, through interaction with employers, students are given a chance to improve their communication skills and increase their self-confidence.”
Over 400 year 8 to 11 students from across the Basingstoke and Deane area will attend the event, which is being held in partnership with Lenovo, and is sponsored by Enterprise M3 and the British Computer Society Berkshire.
30 local businesses are participating in the event, providing activities that will offer a hands-on way for attendees to develop an understanding of the different career opportunities available to them in the Basingstoke area.

At the 2021 Get Inspired Basingstoke event, which was held virtually, 94 per cent of participating businesses said that they would recommend that other organisations attend this type of event.
HR Director of Lenovo UK and Ireland, Adam Lupton, said: “Lenovo has been a key part of the Hampshire community for over 17 years, we’re committed to the area and support STEM initiatives in several schools in the area in order to grow and nurture STEM talent.
“Working with EBP South, we’re able to reach even more young people across Hampshire, and the surrounding areas, inspiring and exciting the people we get to meet about STEM careers.”
Young people are often not fully aware of the different job roles and career paths available to them; Get Inspired events allow business to connect with pupils in the local area and educate them on the careers that are on their doorstep.
