A councillor who has been re-elected by his ward has pledged to focus on making the borough a greener place to live.
Conservative councillor Samuel Carr, who won from Evingar with 1,535 votes against LibDem’s Pauleen Malone (909 votes) also thanked the residents of his ward for supporting him in the election.
“It’s an honour and a delight to serve the lovely western villages of Basingstoke and Deane – and humbling to be allowed to do so for a second term,” he said.

“I hope to earn the trust that voters have placed in me, working hard to keep the borough’s council tax low and the quality of our local services high.
“Hand-in-glove with parish councils, I’ll champion the interests of Evingar’s rural communities: opposing unsustainable development, campaigning to protect our area of outstanding natural beauty; and supporting the delivery of neighbourhood plans.”
Cllr Carr said he will also focus on green infrastructure.
He said: “Over the next four years, I want to make Basingstoke and Deane a greener place to live and work, prioritising progress on recycling, our journey towards a net zero borough, and improvements to green infrastructure.”
Cllr Carr said residents from Evingar parishes – Newtown, East Woodhay, Burghclere, Ecchinswell, St Mary Bourne, Highclere, Hurstbourne Priors, Ashmansworth, Litchfield and Woodcott – can contact him with a local concern on cllr.samuel.carr@basingstoke.gov.uk
