“I was always just going to work and feeling sad and so I quit my job. Around the same time, one of my dogs passed away and it was just such a traumatic year for me.”
She lives with her husband Simon Light and their “beautiful mini sausage dogs” Millie Moo and Dolly. Lucy describes herself as a “full-time sausage dog mum" and started up the hotel in order to move on with her life, after accepting she would be unable to have children.
Lucy, previously worked as a legal secretary but quit her job following the string of bad news.
She said she managed to turn the horrible experience into something positive by starting up the sausage dog hotel, which is called The Long Dog Hotel.
The hotel has been up and running now for two years which she said has “turned my life around”.
She added: “I love all the dogs and I look after them all as if they are my own children, I thought that I could put the love I would have given to children into the dogs.”
Lucy looks after sausage dogs that are nervous, anxious, older, and the ones with intervertebral disc disease (IVDD).
She added: “My Millie Moo has had a back operation three times for IVDD, so I am well aware of how to deal with it.
"I am niche in what I do but I just didn’t think it would take off as well as it has but I just love the dogs, they are a very loud and full of life but I just absolutely love them.”
