A LONG-TERM resident has left a Basingstoke care home to return to their home country of Nepal.
It was both a sad and joyous occasion when one of the long-time residents left his home at St Thomas’, to return to his family home in Nepal.
Staff gathered to wish Karna Dumai well at the start of his 15 hour journey back home to Nepal where his wife and family were eagerly waiting.
Head chef at St Thomas’ Nar Pun, supplied plenty of suitable snacks along with a flask of our resident’s favourite soup for the long journey.
Head housekeeper Denise Rolls said: "I will miss our chats and listening to the stories of his time in the UK military and about his family back home."

General manager, Robert Moodie, added: “It is fantastic to see a resident recover such that they are able to return home, especially on such a long trip. Whilst it is sad to see such a popular resident leave, I am delighted they are returning home to be with family.”
Mr Dumai was a resident at St Thomas's for nearly four years.
St Thomas’ care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering high-quality care across its care homes and hospitals. St Thomas’ provides dementia care, nursing care, residential care, and respite care.
