AN AUDIT, tax and consulting firm has raised money for charity by taking part in a 12-hour danceathon.

A 12-hour danceathon event held RSM’s Basingstoke office has raised £1,900 for Combat Stress, the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health.

The event, which took place on Friday, May 6, involved participants dancing from 8am until 8pm; music from across the decades stretching back to the 60s was featured at the danceathon, along with a ballet lesson and bhangra session.

Organisers of the event Sue Thorn and Suzanne Williams took part, with colleagues including Bev Harfield and Sue Brown, friends and family members also attending to provide their support.

Another guest at the event was a veteran who had personally used Combat Stress to help with his PTSD; he was accompanied by his assistance dog.

Sue Thorn, manager at RSM UK, said: “Although two years later than originally planned due to lockdown, the danceathon was a huge success.

“It was a great opportunity for us to combine fitness with raising money to support Combat Stress, which is a brilliant charity that makes a life-changing difference to veterans.”

Combat Stress is a charity that offers specialist treatment and support to former servicemen and women with mental health issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder (also known as PTSD), anxiety, depression and anger, as well as alcohol and substance abuse.

RSM Basingstoke has already raised £4,250 for Combat Stress through previous fundraising initiatives; the charity was selected as the company’s “Charity of the Year” in 2019.

“The money raised from the event will help significantly in enabling us to give veterans the treatment, care and support needed to shape the future that they desire.”
