FOOTAGE of a huge meteor plummeting towards earth has been captured by on a doorbell camera.
Labelled a “significant fireball" by the UK Meteor Network, the meteor was spotted by people across the UK - including in Basingstoke.
The meteor monitoring organisation said it was picked up by 15 of its cameras at 12.39am on Thursday, May 12.
The time stamp matched exactly with that on the Ring Doorbell footage, sent into the Gazette by Lucy Edwards from Spencers Wood, in Berkshire, after she saw lots of Basingstoke residents posting online about the meteor.
Richard Kacerek, founder of UK Meteor Network, said: "Visually it was quite spectacular, with a green colour, with the different colours usually pointing to the composition of the meteoroid."
