FAMILIES using a water facility in Basingstoke have been advised that it may stop working for up to 30 minutes if it is used frequently.

Chineham Park Splash Pad, in Popley, reopened on April 15 and will remain open from 10am to 7pm every day during the spring and summer months until September.

However, many families have expressed frustrations that they have taken their children to the splash pad and it has not been working.

Some said the water was off for several hours.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, which runs the facility, said that “after extended periods of high usage, the splash pad may temporarily shut down in order to top up its water supply”.

The council said this can take up to 30 minutes.

The borough council has also advised that the opening times of the splash pad “may change due to unforeseen circumstancess".

Leader of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Cllr Simon Bound said: “At times of high usage the water level in the tank at Chineham Park splash pad can become low. When this happens the system will stop for about 30 minutes to allow it to refill. Signage is in place at the site to make users aware of this."

He added: “The splash pad is regularly monitored by our staff including over bank holidays and weekends. Any problems with the facility can be reported to us by calling 01256 844844 during office hours.”
