A BASINGSTOKE law firm had a very successful evening at a recent Hampshire awards ceremony - with both the company and one of its team recognised with accolades.
At the Hampshire Law Society’s annual dinner held at the Aegeus Bowl in Southampton on May 26, Phillips Law scooped two of the three awards given on the night.
Jack Gardener was awarded Hampshire’s Lawyer of the Year and Phillips Law was awarded Small Firm of the Year (turnover less than £10mil).
Jack Gardener and Max Hope joined Phillips in 2018 as directors and shareholders following successful city careers. Since their arrival, Phillips Law has doubled in size following two mergers and the firm was recognized nationally as Medium Sized Firm of the Year at the Law Society Excellence Awards in 2021 for its pioneering fertility policy.

On winning Lawyer of the Year, Jack Gardener said: “I’m delighted and honoured to have been selected as Hampshire’s lawyer of the year. I joined Phillips, and started working in Hampshire, just under four years ago and to receive this recognition in the county where I’m from is fantastic.
"I’m incredibly proud of what has been achieved by the whole Phillips team. In 4 years, we’ve doubled the size of the firm, modernised our systems, made many exciting hires, and retained our key stars. Some of our work has caught national attention too, including our ground-breaking fertility policy which helps those going through IVF with financial support and time off when needed.”
On the winning the Firm of the Year, Max Hope said: “Winning Small Law Firm of the Year at the Hampshire Law Society Awards is pleasing recognition of our commitment to be the leading law firm in Hampshire. At Phillips we’re proud of our Hampshire roots, and whilst many of our clients come from far and wide, it’s our Hampshire clients who form the core bedrock of our business and where our focus starts. We couldn’t be more delighted to be recognised in this way, and we’re grateful to the Hampshire Law Society for giving us this accolade, and amongst a very strong line up of competitors."
Phillips Law is a firm of solicitors based in central Basingstoke and employs 70 people.
