SONS of two former British Touring Car Championship legends were in action as the rounds 7, 8 & 9 of the BTCC were held at Thruxton Circuit last weekend.

Rob Collard’s son Ricky Collard was racing in BTCC and Nick Foster’s son Harry Foster was part of Porsche Visit Cayman Islands Sprint Challenge.

Saturday saw both take part in the qualifying sessions for their respective championships. Harry took pole position in the Team Parker Racing, Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport car with a time of 1min 16secs around the 2.3 mile circuit, while Ricky in the Toyota GAZOO Racing UK, Toyota Corolla GR Sport twenty third also with a time of 1min 16secs, only 0.916 off the pole time.

The first race for Harry was run on Saturday, where he led from start to finish in the 16 lap race pulling out a 2sec gap on the second placed car of Matthew Armstrong.

As Sunday approached, showers were forecast but held off for most of the day. As the light went green for the first of Ricky’s three 16 lap races of the weekend he had a good start and was soon up to twenty first by the end of the first lap.

By lap 3 he had moved up to eighteeth were he remained until lap 7 when a fast approaching Michael Crees (CarStore PMR Astra), made a pass to relegate Ricky back to nineteenth. Lap 8 saw him move back into eighteenth place were he remained until the final lap when he made a couple of passes to take the chequered flag in sixteenth place.

Next up was Harry’s second race where he again started from pole position. Again he had a good start and maintained the lead for the duration in what was a bit processional only coming under slight pressure from Steve Roberts (Redline Racing) who had started second.

The second of the BTCC races saw Ricky start from sixteenth place on the grid. Dropping two places off the start Ricky had to battle hard to try and regain the lost places.

On lap 2 he made a pass on Aron Taylor-Smith (Yazoo with Safuu.com Racing, Cupra Leon) to take seventeenth where he remained until the chequered flag, not quiet being able to get past Tom Chilton (Bristol Street Motors with EXCELR8 Trade Price Cars.com, Hyundai i30N).

Starting from seventeenth in the final race of the day made a reasonable start but lost numerous places and by lap two was in twenty seventh place as the safety car was deployed as Stephen Jelley (Team BMW, BMW 330e M Sport) had spun off the track but managed to get going again.

Racing resumed on lap 3 with a lap added to the race distance, with Ricky leaving himself a lot to do. Lap fourteen saw him running in eighteenth place but on the penultimate lap Ollie Jackson (Apec Racing with Beavis Morgan, Ford Focus ST) made a pass for eighteenth place. Ricky took the chequered flag in nineteenth place.

The next rounds will be held around the Oulton Park Island circuit in Cheshire on 11th-12th June.
