BUDDING artists became ‘part of the bigger picture’ at a Basingstoke shopping centre by designing postcards to show what the Platinum Jubilee meant to them.
Festival Place invited visitors to collect postcards from THAT Gallery and fill them in with their jubilee illustrations.
The finished postcards were used to create a jubilee exhibition at the gallery, which showcases diverse and original art, ceramics and sculptures by local artists.
Other artwork on show included jubilee-themed pieces by resident gallery artists, a large collage of the Queen, and a collection of ‘silly selfies’ captured by FP staff and visitors to the centre.
All postcard designs were also entered into a competition, which was judged by the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Cllr Paul Miller, on June 4.

The winning designs were produced by Molly Curtis, aged 14, Amelia Bhatt, aged three, and Lois Curtis, aged 11.
THAT Gallery artist Rachel Davis said: “The THAT Gallery team relish any opportunity to add colour and fun into the community.
“Supported by the Basingstoke and Deane Jubilee Fund, we were busy bees curating the community postcard art responses and collaborating on a metre square collage of the Queen.
“We built a unique map of Basingstoke and indulged in “Silly Selfies” using our colourful props. Children have been welcomed into the gallery to create portraits of the Queen, too.
“It’s been great fun as ever working with the Festival Place team on this.”
Festival Place Events and Community Manager Sian Fisher said: “It has been wonderful to watch all the artists, the local community and the FP team come together to creative some beautiful pieces of artwork over the past two weeks.

“Everyone at FP loved using all the props provided and getting involved in the silly selfies in the run up to the Jubilee.
“We value our collaborative relationship with That Gallery and look forward to being involved with their next project.”
