A MAJOR road in Basingstoke has been closed as firefighters are tacking a blaze in a property
Abbey Road was blocked temporarily as firefighters from Basingstoke, Rushmoor, Sutton Scotney and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service were tackling the fire from two houses.
The fire, which involved the roof space of two properties in a terraced row, is now out.
No injuries have been reported.
Some fire crews remain on scene to carry out salvage work and community safety activity.
The ambulance crew has confirmed that there were no one in the property, but they remained at the scene to provide support to the firefighters.
A spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called just after 2.30pm and crews are wearing breathing apparatus and using hose reels and jets to tackle the fire. The aerial ladder is in use.
“Firefighters from Basingstoke, Rushmoor, Sutton Scotney and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service are on scene.”

Abbey Road is currently closed, with motorists asked to find an alternative route.

A spokesperson for the South Central Ambulance Service said: “This is a house fire that the fire control room contacted us about just before 2.50pm.
“The fire service confirmed there was no one in the property and we are remaining on scene to provide medical cover to the firefighters who are tackling the blaze.”
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called at 2.52pm to a report of a fire at a property on Abbey Road, Basingstoke.
"Officers have attended to assist with traffic management while our colleagues at Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service deal with the incident."
