Most of the internet and phoneline outages in Basingstoke have been resolved after Openreach engineers worked through the night to repair the damaged cables.
A team of 20 specialist engineers of Openreach repaired the main NHS circuit and as a result the Royal Hampshire County Hospital and Andover War Memorial Hospital are now back online along with thousands of homes and businesses.
An Openreach spokesperson said: “We still have a lot of work to do but will continue onsite until everyone is back up and running.
“We’d like to thank everyone once again for their patience, and will update again later today.”
Hospitals, businesses and around 4,000 Basingstoke families were affected for more than 24 hours after contract workers accidentally damaged an underground network cable while undertaking the Brighton Hill roundabout piling works.
The Hampshire County Council later apologised to the residents for the power outage caused by their contractors.
It, however, blamed the incorrect mapping of the cabling for the incident, and said the information and records showed the fibre optic cabling to be in a different position.
