OVER 250 residents gathered in Russell Howard Park to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a free fun day.
The fun day, which took place on Tuesday, May 31, was organised by Sovereign Housing Association.
The event featured fun activities designed to bring the entire community together to celebrate the momentous occasion.
The afternoon kicked off with a few words from Sovereign’s Community Officer, Stevie Chadwick, who said: “What an amazing turnout! To have so many residents and community groups joining together to enjoy a fun filled day is simply wonderful.
“I’m so pleased to be working in this community with its amazing residents, charities and community groups and looking forward to what we can achieve together in the future.”

Many different charities and volunteers got involved with the fun day to make it a success, managing all sorts of fun activities to keep attendees entertained.
The Westside Community Centre provided delicious cakes and refreshments, while youngsters could get creative with Inspero’s seed bombs.
Meanwhile, local men’s group The Shed provided an impressive array of birdboxes that could be painted and taken home, and Howards Bowls Club introduced bowling to all ages.
Those wanting to quench their thirst were invited to create their own smoothies on Pedal Power’s smoothie bike with further healthy advice and fun activities provided by the NHS Healthier Communities engagement team.
Special appearances by Nick Magic and two royal guests, actors dressed as Disney characters Cinderella and the Red Queen, ensured that everyone was in the party spirit.
The newly formed South Ham Residents Group was also in attendance, and mingled with attendees throughout the afternoon, talking with them about their hopes for the community.
Supported by Sovereign’s Communities team, this group provides a voice for all South Ham residents and is keen for more people to get involved.
Matt Buckham, community director for Sovereign, said: “It’s great to hear South Ham Residents have used this event to engage with the wider community on what matters to them and have fun at the same time.
“There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in your community through our partnerships and team so if you’ve got a great idea for your community project or would like to get a bit more involved in your neighbourhood, get in touch.”
