TO MARK the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Hook Parish Council has created a garden following generous donations from the community.

The garden was recently opened at Wellworth Park with three trees which will form part of the Queen’s Canopy, along with two benches.

The Amelanchie tree was donated by the Hook Townswomen’s Guild and one of the benches was donated by Odiham and Hook Rotary Club.

Goslings Garden and Fencing Services Ltd installed the benches free of charge, as a donation to the village. The rest of the garden and the other bench were funded by Hart District Council’s “Here for Hart” fund and Hook Parish Council.

Over time, the parish council intend to expand the garden and add more plants/planters. It is also planting 30 saplings in the autumn elsewhere in the village as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy.

The garden was opened by Rory Hodgson, aged six, who designed the winning plaque for the garden that was also turned into a card that was sent to the Queen on behalf of the village. Rory was presented with a certificate and artist’s gift pack.

Verd Nabbs, vice chairman of Hook Parish Council, said: “We are delighted to unveil this garden as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and we hope our residents will enjoy it as it develops over time. We have a strong community spirit in the village that is shown by the generous donations made by local groups and companies to the garden that all the residents can enjoy.”
