A FLAG-raising ceremony to mark the start of Armed Forces Week will be led by the borough’s Mayor Cllr Paul Miller.
All service personnel including cadets, serving personnel and veterans, as well as members of the public are invited to attend the event which will take place on Monday, June 20 at 10am at the Civic Offices.
The event is being organised by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council in partnership with Basingstoke and Overton Royal British Legion.
The flag will fly all week before the 14th annual Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 25.
Armed Forces Week is a chance to show support for those in the armed forces community, from serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets, and provides a much-valued morale boost.
Each day of Armed Forces Week will highlight different parts of the British military, including service personnel, their equipment and their roles. Reserves Day is being celebrated on Wednesday 22 June 2022.
Mayor Cllr Miller said: “As a veteran of the armed forces myself, people won't be surprised to hear that Armed Forces Day is very important event for my family and me.
"I would love to see as many people as possible at the ceremony to demonstrate to the borough's armed forces community that the people of Basingstoke and Deane support, respect and value the contribution they and their families make to our communities."
