WORK is underway to build a new supermarket in Hook – which is set to open in less than a year and create new jobs.
The 25,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s in Hook, near to Griffin Way, is expected to open in spring 2023, bringing ‘major investment’ to the village.
Once open, the new store will provide customers with an extensive selection of products, including Sainsbury’s popular Tu Clothing range and its Habitat brand. An Argos collection point will also open inside the supermarket, bringing greater choice, value and convenience to customers who will be able to order from thousands of technology, home and toy products for collection instore.

The supermarket chain will soon begin recruiting over 100 colleagues to join the new store team. This will mean job opportunities across multiple departments, ranging from entry to management level.
To celebrate the beginning of the building work, Sainsbury’s hosted a tour of the site with key representatives from the local community, who also took part in a ground-breaking ceremony.
Cllr Jane Worlock, chairman of Hart District Council and ward member for Hook, said: “I really enjoyed visiting the site of the new Sainsbury’s supermarket and meeting the team who have been working hard to bring the best possible store to Hook. The new store will provide a great boost to the local community, and I look forward to it opening next year.”
Cllr Dermot Smith, Hart District councillor for Hook, added: “It was fantastic to visit the site for the new store and hear about Sainsbury’s plans to bring it to life. Residents are looking forward to having greater shopping choice locally and additional employment opportunities within the village.”

Sainsbury’s property director, Patrick Dunne, said: “We’re really pleased to be taking the next step in our plans to deliver this much-anticipated new store for Hook. We will be keeping the local community informed as construction progresses and look forward to welcoming new colleagues and the community to our store next year."
Ranil Jayawardena, Member of Parliament for North East Hampshire said: “I am pleased to have been asked to turn the first sod on a store that will create jobs and improve choice for the people of Hook and neighbouring villages.”
