A SOUTH Asian dance performance presented by an international choreographer was performed at the Forge Theatre last week.
The performance was held on Friday, June 17 from 3pm-4pm, and was attended by an invited audience.
The show, called Sapta, was a research and development project run by Sushmita Pati, an international dance artist, choreographer and performer based in Hampshire.
Sapta was performed by Sushmita, Showmi Das and Kali Chandrasegaram, and featured music composed by Liran Donin.
Sapta’s choreography took its themes from the environment and Pride and the show was created with the ability to be performed both in- and outdoors.
The audience were invited to join the performers as they moved the 50 feet from The Forge to The Anvil’s foyer area at the end of the piece.
A trio of solo performances were also showcased alongside Sapta.
These included “Mara”, choreographed and performed by Kali Chandrasegaram, and “Eso Shyamal Sundar”, originally by Sraboni Sen and performed by Showmi Das.
Sapta was funded by Arts Council England and is supported by Anvil Arts and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.
