THE Basingstoke Bison’s top British goal scorer of last season Aidan Doughty is the club’s latest re-signing, writes Graham Merry.
The 26-year-old hit the net 34 times last season and also added 26 assists to finish with a 60 points haul.
This was his debut campaign with the Herd and it proved to be a great one as he linked up really well with last week’s resigning George Norcliffe.
Doughty was born on the Isle of Wight and played his junior hockey on the island making his senior debut for the Wightlink Raiders in 2011.
From 2013, he spent three years in America playing for the Boulder Junior Bison, Colorado RoughRiders and Superior RoughRiders scoring over 70 points.
He returned to the Wightlink Raiders in 2016, but when the rink closed, he moved to the Solent Devils.
He then went on to suit up for a season in Streatham followed by two years in Bracknell scoring 17 and 15 times.
Bison head coach Ashley Tait is excited to have Doughty back for a second year and said: “Aidan certainly fulfilled the potential I saw in him and he was an important member of the powerplay unit, as he is able to get himself to the front of the net.
“He is a big signing for us and someone I feel can score even more goals this season.”
Doughty is the fifth Bison player to re-sign this season along with fellow British forwards Zack Milton and George Norcliffe plus netminders Alex Mettam and Jordan Lawday.
