JUNIOR doctors at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been celebrated for their incredible contribution to patient care at an annual award ceremony.
This year’s annual Junior Doctors Awards returned with a record number of nominations from both patients and staff at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with nearly 300 nominations received.
The awards are held in recognition of the hard working and inspiring junior doctors working across Andover War Memorial Hospital, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and Royal Hampshire County Hospital, in Winchester.

Every year, both patients and colleagues can nominate junior doctors across nine categories including rising stars and patient champions.
Foundation doctor Dr Andrew Grey picked up two awards on the night, for Basingstoke Patient Champion and Registrar Doctor rising star. Andrew was nominated for his support and kindness towards patients, their relatives, and colleagues.
He said: "It means a great deal to have been put forward for these awards by my colleagues, with so many other deserving nominees!
"I always try to create an environment where colleagues can ask for my advice no matter how small or silly, they think the question or how busy I am. I am really lucky to work with such talented people and hope I can inspire more trainees to think about medicine and respiratory as a career."
The junior doctors working in the emergency department in Basingstoke and North Hampshire hospital and Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, were in high spirits after winning team of year award.
The trust’s emergency departments act as the front doors for the hospitals, with staff working exceptionally hard as one team to provide the best care for each patient.
Dr Chenai Whachi, who was presented with the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Hero award, nominated for going above and beyond for her colleagues and patients alike and was described as “compassionate, caring and overall, an amazing human being.”
Other winners included Dr Aimee Dowek, who was awarded the Winchester Patient champion award and Dr Aaron Simpson who was recognised in his role as a Quality Improvement Trail Blazer thanks to his work on improving communications for a department within general surgery.
Dr Lara Alloway, chief medical officer for Hampshire Hospitals, added: "It’s a fantastic opportunity to say thank you to our junior doctors, who work so hard each day to care for our patients and be there to support each other.
“It has been incredibly humbling to hear some of the ways our juniors have gone above and beyond, and I want to thank everyone who took the time to nominate one of our team. It is always so difficult to pick the winners – they are all amazing!”
