BASINGSTOKE Odeon cinema has confirmed that it has not experienced any disruptive behaviour at screenings of the new Minions movie.

This comes as many cinemas across the UK have started restricting access to teenagers due to disruptive behaviour during screenings of Minions: The Rise of Gru.

The disruptions are the result of the “Gentleminions” trend on social media which sees teenage boys attend screenings of the recently released Minions sequel dressed in suits, giving them a similar appearance to the films main character, Gru (voiced by Steve Carrell).

The craze also sees the teenagers clasping their hands together in a similar manner to Gru, as well as standing to applaud as the film ends.

However, the trend has begun to get out of hand, with the teenagers beginning to disrupt screenings of the film and causing cinemas to offer refunds to affected customers.

In some instances, teenagers wearing formal wear have been banned from entering cinemas, or otherwise restricted.

However, no restrictions have been implemented at ODEON Basingstoke, with a spokesperson for Odeon Cinemas confirming: “There were no restrictions on access for anyone and no disruption at ODEON Basingstoke.”
