THE Met Office has extended its 'extreme heat' weather warning into next week as high temperatures are forecast to stick around.
On Monday (July 11) an Amber Warning for Extreme Heat was declared for the weekend.
The weather forecaster put out a warning about some exceptionally high temperatures which are possible during Sunday (July 17) and could lead to widespread impacts on people and infrastructure.
The warning originalyl was due to come into force at midnight on Saturday, and run through to the same time on Sunday. However, this has no been expected to cover all of Monday (July 18) and Tuesday (July 19) as well.
What to expect
Population-wide adverse health effects are likely to be experienced, not limited to those most vulnerable to extreme heat, leading to potential serious illness or danger to life.
Government advice is that 999 services should be used in emergencies only; seek advice from 111 if you need non-emergency health advice.
Substantial changes in working practices and daily routines likely to be required.
Significantly more people are likely to visit coastal areas, lakes and rivers leading to increased risk of water safety incidents.
Delays on roads and road closures are possible, along with delays and cancellations to rail and air travel, with potential for significant welfare issues for those who experience even moderate delays.

The Met Office is currently predicting the following temperatures for North Hampshire on Sunday: 30°C in Basingstoke; 31°C in Andover; 29°C in Winchester and 28°C in Romsey.
Thundery showers are occasionally possible in the south and southwest of England too, the Met Office has said, spreading erratically northwards and eastwards. It is uncertain how long the very hot weather will last, but it is likely that much of the UK will see a return to cooler and more widely unsettled conditions during the following week.
