AFTER a temporary hiatus, the Overton Wheelbarrow Race returned in force on Friday, July 15.
The race was held as part of Overton’s Scarecrow Weekend and featured dozens of competitors dressed in a range of impressive costumes.
Costumes and themed wheelbarrows inspired by Top Gun, bees and the Loch Ness Monster all made an appearance.
Prizes were awarded to the fastest and best dressed teams, with an after party taking place at Overton Recreation Centre.
The fastest team were the Baby Boomers, a two-man team made up of Kevin Hogan and Keith Locke.
Meanwhile, the winners of the best dressed medium team were Overton Cops and Robbers, while the prize for best large team went to Bad Mums Do Rio.
This was the first time that the wheelbarrow race had been held since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Event organiser Gary Savory said: “All entrants, all supporting pubs, and all the supporting public were pleased to be able to enjoy the event after missing two years because of Covid.
“It was just a pleasure, everyone was so please to see the event happening again, and all the families of Overton enjoyed themselves.”
He continued: “Thank you to the village of Overton for a great turn out supporting this event in which all proceeds go to Overton sport.”
