A COUNCILLOR is strongly objecting to a plan to install a 5G telecom mast in Hatch Warren area.
Cllr Dan Putty said the proposed mast at footpath off Woodbury Road is a health hazard for the residents and it will be detrimental to the character of the area.
CK Hutchinson Networks is applying to the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to install the 20-metre-high 5G telecom mast along with three additional ancillary equipment cabinets and associated ancillary works.

Objecting to the plan, Cllr Putty said: “I have suggested an area where they should install the mast.
“The last message I received from the company is that they are going to look at that area and investigate the feasibility. But they haven’t come back to me yet. And I do not want them to go behind residents’ back and get the approval, against the wishes of the people who live here and children who walk to school along this footpath.”
Cllr Putty also expressed concerns about the health hazards the mast would cause.
“The tall mast gives out radiation which I think is not good for the health of the residents.
“Residents are also concerned because a 5G mast is quite high. It really makes the area look terrible. It will be detrimental to the character of the area.”
Cllr added that the company should move the mast to the other side of the motorway to keep the residents save.

“It is not very far from the original site. But it will be away from the residential areas. It's high enough and is going to give good coverage not only for the people who are travelling on the motorway, but also for the residents.
“There are some areas where they want to cover. It will cover those areas if they put it on that high position, which I have suggested.”
