A STRUCTURE being built in the car park at Waitrose in Basingstoke is to protect maintenance work from rainfall.
The purpose-built 73,000 square foot store only opened in Basing View in November 2015, initially co-located alongside John Lewis, which closed last year.

However, the car park has suffered with problems from flooding.
Signs up in the car park advise customers that part of it is closed off for ‘essential maintenance work’, but some have been left puzzled by a large structure which has appeared on one side.
Waitrose has confirmed that the metal structure is temporary and is being used as part of the general maintenance of the car park.
A spokesperson said it will protect any work from rainfall.
They added: “We’re doing this work in phases, with the biggest area being done at the moment. So the biggest part is done before our busiest time, and the work isn’t having any disruption on our customers being able to park.”
