A MAN has admitted to causing alarm or distress by stalking a woman in Basingstoke.

Between July 2 and 7, Jason Turner, of Windmill Piece, Chiseldon, Swindon, behaved towards the victim in a way which “had a substantial adverse effect on her usual day-to-day activities”, and which he knew would cause her alarm or distress. 

In particular, the  50-year-old contacted the woman by phone, and was frequently in close proximity to her home address.

Appearing at Winchester Crown Court on Wednesday, August 17, Turner pleaded guilty to the charge.

Judge Susan Evans said that, due to another recent offence of harassment, she was “concerned that Mr Turner was back before the court”. 

She adjourned the case to allow for a pre-sentence report and psychiatric assessment to take place.

Turner was remanded on conditional bail, which prohibits him from contacting the victim, or entering Basingstoke. He must also live and sleep at his home address and report to the police station daily. 

He will next appear at the same court for sentencing on September 22.
