THE public are being asked for their views to help improve a public open space in Basingstoke.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is looking for input from residents before improving Whiteditch Public Open Space in Sherborne Road, Oakridge.

However, while the project will include improving facilities and landscaping, it will not include a revamp of the play area or provision of toilets or catering facilities.

Users of the open space have until Sunday, September 18 to give their views.

The work is part of the borough council’s public open space refurbishment programme.

The project will focus on providing access improvements and recreational facilities within the open space, to meet the needs of a wide range of residents and visitors.

Cabinet member for environment and climate action Cllr Hayley Eachus said: “As part of our work to refurbish our public open spaces we are keen to ask users of Whiteditch Public Open Space how they feel we can improve the area.

“Public open space areas play an important role within communities, providing an area to meet people, exercise or simply enjoy the fresh air, it is therefore important the community tells us what they feel these improvements should be.”

The consultation runs until September 18 here.

The responses received from the consultation will shape the final design of the facilities and work is expected to start later this year.
