A PROPOSAL to build a 20-metre-tall 5G telecommunications has been rejected after receiving more than 20 objections from residents.
The phone mast was proposed by telecommunications company CK Hutchinson Networks Ltd and was to be located at the junction of Buckingham Parade and Kempshott Lane.
However, the proposal was rejected by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council due to the proposed site of the mast being in a “visually prominent location”, as well as its close proximity to homes.

CK Hutchinson Networks Ltd has six months to appeal the decision.
The proposal received 22 objections from nearby residents.
Barry Smith called the proposed tower a “a blight on the quality of the local environs” and warned that it could potentially damage the roots of several nearby trees.
Simon Preedy also objected, noting the mast’s proximity to two nearby schools and an elderly people’s accommodation.

Meanwhile, Zoe Bennett, of Pack Lane, said that the mast would be a “complete and utter eyesore” and warned that it would “damage the aesthetics of the community”.
This is not the first time that a company has applied to build a phone mast at this location.
BT Cellnet applied to construct a 15-metre-tall mast in 2001.
The application was rejected due to a high number of complaints, with the objectors receiving the support of former Basingstoke MP Andrew Hunter.
