RESIDENTS who live in a rat-infested block of flats say they are angry and upset after being left to live in a “nightmare”. 

Irene Hall’s sister lives at the block of flats in Pexalls Close, Hook, which she says is “inundated with rats”.

She said: “It is just a nightmare home. There are people with mental health issues in the block of flats and it is just disgusting.

“Pest control has been out and rat-proofed but it has done nothing. There are people there with mental health issues and rats are now putting snouts through the ceilings and there are rat droppings in the kitchens, they are in the lofts and cavities.”

The building is maintained by Thames Valley Housing Association which confirmed to the Gazette that it is aware of the problem. It has previously sent pest control out but the problem remains.

A spokesperson for the association said: “Clearly any problem like this is troubling and we fully sympathise with the residents who rightly expect the issue to be resolved.

"As soon as we were made aware of the problem, we arranged for pest control specialists to visit.

"They took a number of actions including drainage and external proofing work to the block. Unfortunately, the issue has persisted, and a surveyor will visit the block on Friday to investigate further.

"We will continue to liaise with residents and work alongside them to ensure that the issue is fully resolved.”

However, Irene is not the only resident who has become increasingly angry at the situation.

Another resident, who did not want to be named, said the situation has just got worse and worse.

She said: “It started out with just hearing them banging but they have now got into the kitchen, biting through wiring and causing a water leak.

“It really is starting to affect my mental health because I get nowhere when I try to complain about the problem.

“It has got so bad that it even keeps me awake at night.”
