AN appeal has been launched to find the owner of a unique statue after it was recovered during a late-night pursuit which led to the arrest of two suspects.
It comes after officers tried to stop a car with no insurance on Windhover Roundabout in Hamble at around 12.35am on Tuesday morning.
Following a pursuit, two men aged 24 and 33 from Southampton were arrested on the A272 near Owslebury.
The 24-year-old was arrested on suspicion of theft, theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop and obstructing an officer in execution of their duty.
The 33-year-old was arrested on suspicion of theft, theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop, drink driving and dangerous driving.
In the car was a statue of a stag which officers suspect has been stolen.
Both men have been released under investigation, although no further action will be taken against the 24-year-old in relation to the theft of a motor vehicle charge.
Officers are now looking to reunite the striking stag with its rightful owner.
A spokesperson said: "If you own the item or have information, please contact 101 quoting the reference 44220362946."
