A PERIOD of national mourning has now begun following the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

The 96-year-old monarch died peacefully at Balmoral yesterday afternoon surrounded by her family.

News of her death has been met with deep sadness by communities up and down the country and beyond.

Tributes to Her Majesty's long life of service have been pouring in ever since Buckingham Palace made the announcement at around 6.30pm.

As the national mourning officially begins, events celebrating the Queen and her legacy will be taking place across Basingstoke.

St Michael’s Church Basingstoke

The church will be opening a book of condolence at St Michael’s in the town centre on Friday, September 9. 

Christ Church Chineham

Christ Church will be open for private prayer at the following times over the next few days: Friday: 10am - 4pm; Saturday: 2 - 4pm; Sunday: 12 - 2pm.

The church has an informal book of condolences. The church will be paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth II and praying for King Charles III and the wider Royal Family during 10am service on Sunday.

Mosaic Church, Basingstoke

The will mark her passing and celebrate her life on Sunday.
