A 10-YEAR-old boy has broken the junior Basingstoke Parkrun record that had stood for more than five years.
Caiden Griffin, from Chineham, broke the record by five seconds in August.
He goes to Sherfield School and trains with Wessex Wyvern Modern Penthalon Club, Hart Swim Club, and Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletics Club up to 12 times a week.
An aspiring Team GB athlete, Caiden is also a British champion in his age group in Laser-Run, which is part of the Modern Pentathlon event in Olympics.
Laser-Run involves athletes shooting and running. Caiden took a convincing gold earlier this year in the Edinburgh British Championships and secured a place on Team GB for the World Laser-Run Championships taking place in Lisbon from September 22 to 25.
An aspiring UIPM Modern Pentathlon athlete, Caiden also competed in Machico in Portugal in June at the European Laser-Run and European Biathle (Run, Swim, Run) Championships and took gold for Laser-Run and silver for Biathle against a field of international competitors.
Having qualified for Team GB in Biathle he then went on to qualify for Team GB for Triathle (Shoot, Swim, Run) where he will compete at the European championships in Athens in October and the World championships in Madeira also in October.
